Gutter Installation in Central Florida

Gutters usually come up as an afterthought, and the best time to do them is precisely when nobody is thinking about them: while the roof is being replaced. The roof is already being worked on, the edge is already exposed, and the gutters can be sized and aimed for the roof that is actually going on rather than the one that was there.

They are also more important here than in most places. A Florida afternoon storm can put a startling volume of water off a roof in a few minutes, and it has to go somewhere other than against the foundation.

Sizing is the part that gets skipped. A gutter that is too small for the roof area feeding it overflows in exactly the storms it was installed for, which looks like a blockage and is not. So is a downspout in the wrong place, or one that discharges two feet from the wall it is supposed to be protecting.

We size for the roof, place the downspouts where the water actually needs to leave, and take it far enough from the house to be worth doing.

How we work

Work out what feeds what

Roof area, pitch and where valleys concentrate the flow. That decides the size, and it is the step that separates gutters that work from gutters that exist.

Place the downspouts

Where the water needs to leave, and where they will not be in the way of a door, a path or a driveway.

Check the fascia

Gutters hang off it, so soft fascia has to be dealt with first. Hanging new gutters on rotten wood is a job you do twice.

Fit and test

Hung to fall the right way and run with water before we leave, because a gutter that holds water is a gutter that was never checked.

Common questions

Should I do gutters at the same time as the roof?

It is the right time. The edge is already exposed, the crew is already there, and the gutters can be sized for the roof actually going on rather than the one coming off.

My gutters overflow in heavy rain. Are they blocked?

Sometimes, and sometimes they are simply too small for the roof feeding them. A gutter that overflows only in the hardest storms is usually undersized rather than blocked.

Do you do gutter guards?

Ask us. Under this much oak canopy they can genuinely help, but they are not magic and some types make cleaning harder rather than unnecessary. We will be straight about which is which.
